Canigou Circuit

The 4 days circuit around the Canigou is a nice walk around the peak of the mountain. The principel is a day walk from refuge to refuge high up in the mountain. The walk isn't technical nor very difficult (obviously this is subjective to each trekker) , but it is a long day walk. So each day you will need to walk averagely 8 hours. The trail in most places is well marked, but you need to carefully watch that you are on the track since there are several places which you do have a risk of making mistakes. It is possible to walk in both directions of the circuit.

If you wish to climb the peak of the Canigou in this trip you have two options. 1) Add a day to the circuit and make the climb and descend from and to refuges de Cortales. 2) The next day after you slept in refuges de Cortalets you climb the peak and descend from the other side of the mountain through the “Chimney” which is a very very steep descend (I haven't done it) and than continue to refuges de Mariailles for the next night.

If you arrive with a car, it is easier to start (and finish) in Refuge de Batere, and in that case (of 4 days walk, and 3 nights sleep) you probably will not sleep in that refuges that you started the walk.

The day that you walk between Guillem and Mariailles can be done in two days (so adding one full day to the trek) if you walk through the refuge of Les Conques. Its an alternate way to walk with a detour and hence not cutting the daily distance into half (I have not done it).
